Committee members visited the factory for processing liquid radioactive waste, industrial complex for processing solid radioactive waste, mounting area of the New Safe Confinement, "Ukryttia" observation pavilion, and construction site for storage of spent nuclear fuel.
The working meeting involving people’s deputies, Head of State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management V.Kholosha, ChNPP Director-General Ihor Hramotkin, and Slavutych mayor V.Udovychenko as well as representatives of respective ministries, departments and organizations was held.
In the course of the meeting, the reports regarding Chornobyl NPP decommissioning and transformation of the “Ukryttia” into an environmentally safe system were heard. Both the issue of implementation of International Chornobyl Projects and the issue of exclusion zone and the problems connected with social protection of Chornobyl workers and residents of Slavutych were also discussed.
The Committee Chair Iryna Sekh stressed that financing of the events aimed at Chornobyl NPP decommissioning and transformation of the “Ukryttia” into an environmentally safe system gives rise to concern.
The status of implementation of the National Program on Chornobyl NPP decommissioning and transformation of the “Ukryttia” into an environmentally safe system was reported by the ChNPP Director-General Ihor Hramotkin.
Noting several positive moments of implementation of projects at Chornobyl industrial site, the Deputy Chairman of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate Olha Makarska stressed that the process of project implementation is hampered by underfunding.
Slavutych mayor Volodymyr Udovychenko focused on the problems of social protection of Chornobyl workers and their families residing in Slavutych.
Following the results of discussion, a number of suggestions in regard to refinement of the situation were referred to the Committee.
In her closing remarks, the Committee Chair stressed the need of consolidating efforts of all interested parties for effective and timely settlement of the abovementioned problems. I.Sekh noted that the Committee will consider and analyze all the suggestions and take the respective decision during one of the upcoming meetings.
